Profile

Who is Core Sensing?

core sensing is a specialist in integrated force and torque sensors as well as wireless telemetry solutions, based in Darmstadt. The company develops and manufactures sensors, electronics, and software in-house and supplies them in series to machine, component, and sensor manufacturers. Its mission: to create intelligent sensors that do not simply generate as much data as possible, but rather provide high-quality information. The team consists of over 20 employees, more than 80 percent of whom are engineers in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, and computer science. core sensing is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 27001.

Where We Come From

From an Invention to a Platform

At the heart of core sensing lies an invention: a force and torque sensor that is not mounted on the outside of the machine but is integrated into its interior. Based on strain gauges, it measures via a force shunt directly within the hollow spaces of shafts and other machine components—exactly where the forces are actually acting. The principle was developed through research at TU Darmstadt, at the Institute for Production Engineering and Metal Forming Machinery and in the Department of Measurement and Sensor Technology. In 2019, Markus Hessinger, Simon Krech, Arthur Buchta, and Martin Krech founded core sensing GmbH based on this technology.

Since then, an entire platform has been built around this sensor: proprietary measurement electronics, energy-efficient wireless transmission, gateways, algorithms, apps, and cloud services—all supported by in-house development and mass production. Today, we supply machine, component, and sensor manufacturers on a mass-production basis. We have remained specialists in integrated sensor technology. But today, we can do much more with it than we could at the beginning.

Four disciplines, one building

What We Do

Integrated measurement technology emerges where four disciplines intersect: mechanical engineering for the sensor within the component, electrical engineering for signal amplification and signal quality, mechatronics for power, wireless communication, and operating modes, and computer science for data analysis, apps, and the cloud. All four disciplines operate under one roof at our company, right through to our in-house manufacturing.

Mechanical Engineering

Sensors in the Component

Mechanical design, strain gauge installation, and calibration directly within the machine component, even in rotating and hard-to-reach areas.

Electrical Engineering

Measurement Electronics and Signal Quality

In-house electronics development for amplification, digitization, and clean, time-resolved measurement data under harsh conditions.

Mechatronics

Power and Operating Modes

Energy-efficient operating modes measure only what is necessary. This ensures long operating times without cables and with no maintenance required.

Mechatronics

Wireless and Interfaces

Wireless transmission from the moving component, along with documented, open interfaces instead of a closed system.

Computer Science

Data Analysis, Apps, and the Cloud

Measurement data is transformed into actionable information: algorithms, visualization, and cloud connectivity serve as the foundation for condition monitoring and data-driven process optimization.

All Disciplines

In-house mass production

From development to repeatable, high-precision mass production in accordance with ISO 9001, in a facility spanning over 1,400 m² in Darmstadt.
